CHRIS'S NEWSCAST
Hi All!
Our next Leader meeting is Monday,
January 23 but here's some news to enjoy before then.
Cookie Order Forms are being distributed -
have you gotten yours?
Bingo Bash is being held by Troop 40547 on March 23.
This is open to Daisy, Brownie, Junior, and Cadette Girl
Scouts.
Council is setting up CPR/First Aid
trainings in the Central and East Service centers for
February and March; they should be online by early next week
if not before. By the end of February Council will have new
trainers ready for the East and Central areas so we should
see an increase of CPR/First Aid training offerings sometime
this spring. If you need training before then try the
American Red Cross or the American Heart Association for
classes.
Older Girl Me and My Guy Dance - We
have a date! Saturday, March 3. More details will be shared
at the leader meeting.
Have you heard or seen that Fanwood Scotch
Plains Girl Scout Community is offering a College
Scholarship for graduating Seniors thru the Dollars for
Students program? If you make a donation to Dollars for
Students you can write on the form to use it for the Girl
Scout Scholarship.
Council is offering a new Volunteer
Learning Opportunity (VLO) in February. The Theme is:
How do the skill badges work with the Journeys?
For Brownie, Junior and Cadette level
leaders. All 15 skill badges will be connected with the
three journeys at each level. Science activities will also
be presented:

Four other fun science experiments will be handed out as
a take-a-ways
-
Junior: Tin can racers, shinning
pennies, invisible ink, centripetal force. Other fun

The session will be 7-9PM with one being
held in each Service Center. Find them on the
GSHNJ
Calendar and register online.
Have you heard that 2012 has been
named the "Year of the Girl" by GSUSA?
Below is some miscellaneous information I
have seen and thought I would pass on...

Still have you holiday cards? Save and
Recycle Holiday Cards for Operation: Quiet Comfort. The
holidays are over, but don't throw away all those cards!
Cut off the front of the cards (less to shipping that
way) and mail them to Operation: Quiet Comfort! We'll
make them into new cards to be included in our 2013
holiday shipment to the military field hospitals in
Afghanistan. It's never too early to help our wounded
soldiers!
Send card fronts to:
Diane Schneider
1500 Carrington Park Circle #210
Morrisville, NC 27560
And if you have any questions about how your
Girl Scouts can turn an Operation: Quiet Comfort project
into a Bronze, Silver or Gold Award project, please contact
Diane!
As usual any questions just let us know.

Join the Fun of Girl Scouting
Fanwood and Scotch Plains girls in kindergarten to 12th
grade can have fun all year long by becoming Girl Scouts.
Girls have fun and enjoy activities with other girls of the
same age while they learn by doing, make new friends, and
learn about themselves and their world. Since the Girl
Scouts will celebrate their 100th anniversary in 2012, this
will be an exciting year in the organization.
The Fanwood-Scotch Plains Community of Girl Scouts will
hold an informational meeting for adults and girls
interested in joining Girl Scouts on Tuesday, September 20,
2010 at 7:00 pm in the cafeteria of Terrill Middle School
(1301 Terrill Road, Scotch Plains).
Kindergarten and first-grade girls can join Daisy Girl
Scouts. Older girls can join one of more than 90
Fanwood-Scotch Plains Girl Scout troops, which span from
kindergarten through high school. A registration fee of $12
per girl or adult volunteer will be collected at the
meeting.
The formation of new troops, especially at the Daisy
level, depends upon adults volunteering to be leaders. Girl
Scouting needs caring adults to provide guidance and
leadership to enable the girls of today to become the
confident young leaders of tomorrow. Free training is
provided for all adult volunteers, and ongoing support is
abundantly available. Volunteers are also needed to help
with short-term projects such as fun events, badge workshops
and cookie sales.
Fanwood-Scotch Plains is part of the Girl Scouts Heart of
New Jersey Council, which covers 7 counties across central
New Jersey. For more information about FSP Girl Scouts
please call Chris Quesada at (908) 233-5943 or review this
website. For information on Girl Scouts elsewhere in central
New Jersey, call (908) 518-4400 or go to
http://www.gshnj.org.

WHAT
DID YOUR DAUGHTER DO TODAY?
As a Girl Scout parent, you know Girl Scouting helps ordinary girls
do extraordinary things. Did you also know that 70% of the women in
Congress were Girl Scouts? Do you see Girl Scouts helping your
daughter become better at managing her time? Developing leadership
skills? Becoming more responsible? These are just some of the
wonderful things Girl Scouting provides our daughters.
What you may not know is
how crucial your financial support is to Girl Scouts … and
especially to the Heart of New Jersey Council.
It costs about $220 a
year to support each girl who participates through a volunteer-led
Girl Scout experience. $178 of this cost is covered by product
sales, corporate sponsors, grants and program fees. We are asking
each GS family to consider donating $42 to cover the shortfall.
The dollars you donate
will help run our LOCAL council (including the Westfield store),
create LOCAL programming (badge workshops, Silver/Gold training, CPR
certifications for leaders), maintain properties such as our beloved
Camp Hoover, home to our LOCAL encampment.
In other words, these funds directly benefit your daughter!
We believe Girl Scouting
offers our daughters opportunities and skills they might not
otherwise have. We think it is a program worth supporting
financially, in addition to the $12 registration fee — all of which
goes to GS(USA).
Simply put, your Annual
Family Campaign gift is an investment in something close to home and
close to your heart: your daughter.
Remember, your gift is
TAX DEDUCTIBLE and stays in our LOCAL community. Please consult with
your financial and tax advisors regarding your specific
circumstances.
You may return your donation in the envelope provided by your leader
(mailed directly to Council) or use our secure online site at
www.gshnj.org.
Please check with your employer to see if they will match your gift!
Girls in Scouting learn
leadership confidence and competence. They learn to work with others
but be themselves. In short, they become better people.

Girl Scout Promise
On my
honor, I will try:
To
serve God* and my country,
To help
people at all times,
And to
live by the Girl Scout Law.
* The word "God" can be interpreted in
a number of ways, depending on one's spiritual beliefs. When
reciting the Girl Scout Promise, it is okay to replace the word
"God" with whatever word your spiritual beliefs dictate.

|
Girl Scout Law
I will do my best to be
honest and fair,
friendly and helpful,
considerate and
caring,
courageous and
strong, and
responsible for what
I say and do,
and to
respect myself and
others,
respect authority,
use resources wisely,
make the world a
better place, and
be a sister to every
Girl Scout.
